In the joyful spirit of welcoming the New Year, the Canada-Vietnam Cultural & Educational Council (CVCEC), in collaboration with schools such as Newton International College, Upper Madison College, and Vietnamese student groups from Seneca Polytechnic and York University, organized meaningful activities to promote Vietnamese cultural identity to the international community.
CVCEC members actively participated in and organized a variety of cultural events to recreate the spirit of traditional Tết through áo dài showcases, cultural exchanges, and the introduction of Vietnamese New Year customs.
These activities attracted the interest of many international students studying in Canada. A Chinese student attending the event initially mistook the Vietnamese áo dài for traditional Chinese clothing. However, CVCEC members gracefully clarified the origins and cultural significance of the áo dài, skillfully preserving Vietnamese identity while expressing national pride in a multicultural country like Canada.
CVCEC student members also introduced international friends to the origins and meaning of Tết Nguyên Đán. Their heartfelt sharing about traditional customs, cultural values, and the spirit of unity left a lasting impression on the international audience.
Trang Phan, Executive Director of CVCEC, shared that she always puts great care and attention into developing educational materials, especially those rich in Vietnamese cultural elements. Her Lunar New Year resources have even made it into the global top downloads, helping children around the world learn more about Vietnamese culture.
Lunar New Year is not only a time for the Vietnamese community in Canada to reunite, but also an opportunity to proudly introduce and share their culture. Through these events, CVCEC continues to affirm its role as a cultural bridge, helping the Vietnamese community in Canada not only preserve their heritage but also promote the beauty of Vietnamese culture to the world.
